Lincoln Red Imps FC took firm control of their UEFA Champions League first qualifying round tie two days ago, beating Inter Club d'Escaldes 3-1 at Victoria Stadium to give head coach Yiyi a two-goal cushion ahead of the return leg in Andorra.

Yiyi kept his 4-1-4-1 structure and it overwhelmed the 4-3-3 of Joel Martínez almost from the first whistle. Nano patrolled the left flank with authority and the Lincoln midfield closed every passing lane, forcing Inter to chase the game before they could settle.

Nano converted a penalty in the 16th minute after drawing the foul himself, and the hosts only grew bolder. Ten minutes later Manuel Toledano finished a sharp move, meeting Nano’s cut-back in the 26th minute to double the lead. Veteran Lee Casciaro was booked in the 31st minute as Lincoln pressed in waves, but a rare lapse gave Inter their lifeline: Christian Rutjens diverted into his own net in the second minute of first-half stoppage time while trying to cut out a low cross.

Lincoln refused to panic. Toledano went into the book for rough play in the 57th minute, and Mandi followed with a foul a minute later, prompting Yiyi to act. The double switch in the 59th minute was decisive, with Kike Gómez arriving alongside Yussef Flalhi Idrissi. Within seven minutes Gómez delivered a measured pass for Facundo Alvarez, who restored the two-goal margin in the 66th minute with a composed finish, highlighting the depth advantage Lincoln possess at this stage of the campaign.

Martínez turned to his bench as well, introducing Juan Cámara in the 57th minute and then Toni Paredes and David López six minutes later, but Inter never solved the pressure on Víctor Alonso at the base of midfield. Anwar Hernández was booked in the 72nd minute, and later changes, including Dacu and Mamadou Diaby in the 75th minute, brought energy but no incision. Ethan Jolley, Rubén García and Nico Pinto shored things up late for Lincoln, who managed the closing stages without alarm.

Lincoln now travel to Estadi Nacional on July 14 with a clear mandate: keep the structure intact and protect the cushion. Inter must find fluency quickly or this tie will slip away. For more on this qualifying round, see Flora Tallinn vs Saburtalo.
