Nice 2-1 Lille: Amoura gives Pantaloni lift as Lille waste control at Allianz Riviera

Nice needed a result, not a thesis. They got it on September 20 at Allianz Riviera: Nice 2-1 Lille, a first Ligue 1 win of the season for O. Pantaloni’s side and a damaging first defeat for B. Génésio’s Lille.

The table tells the immediate story. Lille still sit fourth on 10 points after five matches, but this was a missed chance to keep closer pressure on Monaco, Lyon and Paris FC. Nice climb to five points, still 14th, still with work to do, but no longer stuck in the same early-season fog.

That was the substitute package working. Kjærgaard gave Lille the final pass they had lacked, and Ueda, who finished with 4 shots on target, finally found the goal his movement deserved. But it came too late. Kjærgaard was booked in stoppage time, and Lille’s push never became a point.

Why Nice won

Nice did not dominate. They survived, managed, and punished the moments that mattered.

The back three was not flawless, but it was stubborn. Mohamed Abdelmonem, Y. Ndayishimiye, X. Mandza Tsiendi and later A. Seidu had to live with Lille’s volume. Lille produced 21 shots, 15 from inside the box, and 7 corners. That is normally enough to take something.

Not here.

Y. Diouf was the difference in pure defensive value. Seven saves against a Lille side with 8 shots on goal is the kind of goalkeeper performance that changes the emotional temperature of a season. Nice needed resistance as much as refinement.

Ahead of him, Amoura gave the match its sharp edge. His goal in the 67th minute made Lille chase from two down, and his work without the ball mattered too. Nice’s 3-4-2-1 only functions if the two players behind the striker run both ways. Amoura did.

For Lille, the frustration is sharper. Génésio’s side had enough of the ball and enough shots to avoid defeat, but the own goal in the 22nd minute changed the contract of the match. From there, Nice could defend the lead, then double it through Amoura in the 67th minute.

Lille remain in the European places, but this was the kind of away defeat that lingers because the numbers supported them and the score did not. Nice now need to turn this into a run. Lille need a response before the gap to the top three becomes more than early-season noise.
